AMA SUPERMOTO CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND 6 DEL MAR
Darryl's report.

Kurtis Roberts, son
of Road Race legend Kenny Roberts, shows Darryl how good
he's looking.
Not far from San Diego California
was the 6th round of the American Supermoto Championship,
set up in a parking lot of the Del Mar Fairground, this is
how my weekend went.
TIME QUALIFICATION - 7th
HEAT RACE - 4th
FINAL - 6TH
COMMENTS:
It rained really hard from 1am in morning till
8am, so practice was delayed for 2 hours so the AMA officials
could drain the water from the track. In my heat race I got
a 4th place start and worked my way close to battle for 2nd,
I tried to pass into third on the last lap but ran wide and
went back
into
4th.
It started to rain a little before the start
of the final so we were
unsure
which tires to fit in the bike for the final, I took the
chance and went
with the slicks.
As I was on the second row I started not to bad, but in the
second
corner a
ride went down and I got stuck on his bike, once I got going
I was in
8th,
within 3 laps I was in 5th and just on the fight for 3rd
position. I was
pushing hard but could not stay with Dymond and Carlson and
with 5 laps
to
go French rider David Baffeleuf passed me along the start
straight and I
finished 6th.
I was happy to finish 6th and am now back to
8th in the Championship, as
this is my first year racing this sport. I still feel I
can be on the
podiums, but I just need to work a little harder the next
3 weeks before
the
final round in Las Vegas.
Thank you to all of you for your support.
Kind Regards,
Darryl Atkins
