Stephen Briggs (#8) going hard
on the big KTM but again it was Brown (#23) to the fore.
The local Bike Torque crew of Supermotarders
can take a lot of the credit for New Zealand's second Supermoto
track but they couldn't quite grab all the honours.
Russell Josiah, local bike shop owner (Bike
Torque), former two time New Zealand Superbike champion and
reigning BikeMart S4 Supermoto champion was ruled out before
race one had even run it's course.
Josiah, and Bike Torque staffers Ian (Atkey)
Atkins and mechanic Moose are all keen motarders and were
instrumental in getting the dirt section added to the local
kart track. Descibed as technical, the course takes in elevation
changes a couple of jumps and some of the excellent kart
track features.
Near on a dozen riders fronted for the first
Supermoto and it was Paul Brown who used his agile CRF450
to good effect to take the days
overall. With
Josiah's
demise, (suspected ligament damage sustained during race
one), the duo of Brendon Coad (KTM525) and Stephen Briggs
(KTM525)
were left to push Brown along.
Briggs looked to have Brown under some pressure
on the big KTM but gear lever damage in a fall ruled him
out of a race and effectively points contention. The ever
improving Coad took third for the day.
Josiah junior (Jette) won the sportsman class
and Michael Higgie the Quad class.
