Newly married Darryl Atkins returns to these
fair shores this weekend. Atkins has had a busy time since
finishing 6th overall in the American Unlimited Supermoto
national series. First off he got married in Hawai. Then
he's had an operation on his leg to repair some old race
injury and now he's come back home to show his new wife around
NZ.
Performance factory's "Jimmy' has been flat
out putting Supermotard wheels together for the upcoming
battle of the streets series. Last year's champion Craig
Flood has nearly got his bike together after a busy year
running his New Plymouth Energy Honda buisness. The slide
buster Briggs has an all new machine to take the challenge
to Flood. Briggs has only had one outing on the machine but
has been keeping himself sharp this past winter with regular
Supermoto races in the Husaberg Supermoto Series.
Ben Townley, World MX2 champion (for those
who have been living under a rock the last six months) is
going to be handing out a few prizes at Wanganui on Boxing
day. Townley is rumoured to be putting in a couple of laps
on a Supermoto bike to greet the fans. Word is if he had
not been carrying an injury he'd have been lining himself
up for a crack on the legendary 'Cemetery' circuit.
Husaberg Supermoto promoter Nigel Bevin has
not only got a 2 man 2 hour on in January but is also set
to run a 3 round Supermoto National series. Bevin's series
kicks off at the end of Feb (the week after the Paeroa street
races) and promises over $7500 in prizes. Irishman Greg Kinsella
is being bought over by VOR to ride at least a couple of
rounds of the series.
