Despite the rain we've been having the Taupo track was dry and the sun was out.to welcome the 35 to 40 odd motarders last Sunday.

The Supermotards had their own class at this road race round and a few were able to get into the F2 class as the F3 class was heavily subscribed with pukka road race bikes. In the last F2 race of the day a heap of Motards did manage to slip in another race however.

After a slow morning the club didn't manage to get through the three races each on the programme. With F1, F2 and F3 as well as classics and sidecars it was a busy day.

Motards Race 1

Craig Sargent(KTM525) shot to the front, followed by Briggs(KTM660), Coad(KTM560) & Summers(YZF450). These front four pulled away from the pack, A CR450 rider(no.55) started to chase but lost the back end going into a fast left hander, he wasn't able to fix his bike so his racing was over for the day. Summers who was using qualifying tyres, found they weren't holding together too well. He found that with the tyres slipping about, he couldn't get on the gas out of the corners as soon as he'd have liked and he had little hope of holding onto the flying KTM's. Briggs and Coad got the better of Sargent with Summers finishing just out of range.

Motards Race 2

Sargent wasn't able to reproduce his form from the first race so it was Briggs, Coad and Summers that broke away early, finishing the race almost half a lap in front, with the others settling into their own dices.

Clubman

Toby Summers father, Barry, an experienced motocrosser visiting from the UK, fancied a go at motard so borrowed junior's bike.. He ran in the clubman class and ended up winning Clubmans for the day. Not not bad for a 59yr old first timer!

Everybody enjoyed the new track and figure there is plenty of potential for future events but all miss the fantasic permanent track that Mr Supermoto, Nigel Bevin had before the changes.
