BikeMart Cup, up for grabs.

For five years the very best racers have done battle for the "BikeMart Supermoto Champion" title and it has perhaps become the countries most coveted prize in Supermoto. This year the title is up for grabs in the 450 class at the annual boxing day races.

Shayne King was the cup's inaugral winner back in 2002 and right from it's inception it has been a hotly contested title. King had 2004 champion Stephen Briggs take a race off him on a KTM380 that first year. There have been plenty of torrid battles over the years since.

A number of former Superbike Champions have made their mark, including Tony Rees, Russell Josiah, Jason McEwen and Dean Fulton but none have wrestled the supereme title.

Racers dedicated to Supermoto have proven to be the title favorites save King's win and this year's event should again prove interesting.

Two contenders from Papakura must be in the favorites. Both former winners of the Cup, Toby Summers and Stephen Briggs have the right ingrediants. Briggs has of course been right up there from the start and Summers who won the Bike Torque series this winter is the reigning BikeMart Supermoto champion. Summers has had a couple of trips across the ditch to try out the hot Australian series and will be fairly sharp on his Yamaha come Boxing Day. Briggs who has spent most of his Supermoto career on the big KTM660 is no slug on KTM's hot 450 so look out for the number 8 to be putting the pressure on.

Craig Flood (#95) has proven his mastery of the road course here over the years and watch out for Paul Brown probably the fastest Supermoto racer not to have won the BikeMart Cup. This could well be his year.

Brendon Croad (#5), Scott Wilkins, Mitch Rowe. Any one of these part time Supermoto guys are capable of bolting for race wins.

If you've not been to the Cemetery Circuit event before make this year the one. A course that includes the all new off road section hasn't been run in over fifty years of the events history. This year could prove to be something special.
