Angus Reekie and KTM dominate at Supermoto Cup Oran Park.

-(press release)

Nineteen year old Angus Reekie from Bowral, has proven he is the new breed of supermoto professionals coming through the ranks, after cleaning up at round two of the Supermoto Mayhem Cup, held at Oran Park over the weekend.

Riding for KTM Elf Racing, Reekie rode to victory in both the Pro Open class and the All Powers Challenge, the two feature events on the day, leading his rivals from start to finish.

Reekie also set a new lap time record at Oran Park for supermoto, coming in at 58.3 seconds a lap, a couple of seconds faster than previous record holder, American supermoto pro Mickey Dymond.

Entered on board a supermoto modified KTM 505 SXF in the All Powers Challenge and a KTM 450 SMR in the Pro Open class, Reekie had all the bike support he needed to claim the top podium position.

Commenting on his racing Reekie said, “I was determined to come out on top at this round, because I felt it was about time I stepped it up for KTM, to take it to the usual race winners.

“I have been training pretty intensely on motocross and tarmac surfaces to prepare for this round and it really paid off.

“The KTM 505 SXF that I rode in the All Powers Challenge was KTM factory racer, Brad Williscroft’s bike that he rode for Motorex Shift KTM Off-Road Racing in the Finke Desert Race. We had it modified for supermoto riding and it was unbeatable on the race track.

“The All Powers was my most challenging ride, I had some stiff competition from a lot of factory racers, particularly Honda’s Rodney Taplin, Husky’s Stuart Bennett and a few of the Aprilia riders, so it was awesome for KTM to come up ahead of these guys.

“Leading up to the All Powers race, I first competed in three Pro Open races, which were eight laps each. I got the hole shot in each race and rode hard to take the win in each. It was tough going in the cold weather, I had to ease my way in while the tyres warmed up to grip with the temperature, but it all came good in the end, which gives me great confidence for my entry into the Australian Supermoto Championship which kicks off in August.”

The final round of the Supermoto Mayhem Cup will return to Oran Park on September 23. While kicking off beforehand on August 25, also at Oran Park will be round one of the Australian Supermoto Championship.
