Reekie and KTM win Australian Supermoto Championship

Australasian Dirt Bike Magazine Supermoto Rider of the Year, Angus Reekie, has won the Australian Supermoto Championship in the S2 class with one round remaining.Riding the KTM 450 SX-F for KTM Elf Racing, Reekie has been unstoppable all season and was no different on the weekend when round four and five took to Ipswich in Queensland.

Commenting on his success Reekie said, “I’m stoked to win the S2 Championship for KTM at the same track I won the Queensland Supermoto Championship.“The KTM 450 SX-F was faultless for me up against many other factory bikes and teams. At round four I got the fastest time in qualifying, and I also won super-poll for the best start off the grid. I then got the hole shot and didn’t look back for the win in my final races.

“Round five was pretty much the same in the S2 class, but I did have Rodney Taplin try and challenge me for the lead. He didn’t pass me though, so I still had a clean sweep for the win.“Besides KTM and Bark Busters, I haven’t had much industry support to get me to the top, so my family have put in a lot of time, effort and money to get me where I am and help win this Championship so a big thanks goes out to them.

“My next goal is to win the S1 class at the final round of the Australian Supermoto Championship in two weeks. I’m already leading this class, so if I ride smartly I will hopefully take home both class wins for KTM. “In the S1 class on the weekend at Ipswich, I won my first race on the KTM 505 SX-F with little competition, but in the second race I hit a rut and came off the bike. That pushed me back to around sixth, before I worked my way up to second to finish only one wheel behind Graham Cheney before we crossed the finish line. “I made up for that mistake in the final S1 class with another win, but I haven’t accumulated enough points yet to take the Championship, that’s what I’m hoping for at the final round in two weeks.”

Twenty year old Reekie from Bowral in NSW, will next compete in the final round of the Australian Supermoto Championship on Saturday 24 November at Calder Park Thunderdome in Victoria, followed by Moto Mayham on Sunday 25 November. For further information see www.supermotonsw.com.
