Our MNZ proposes banning supermotards from roadracing!
If you don't respond (below)supermotard bikes will not be able to run in any class except their own. This means if a meeting has no Supermotard class you can't ride.
We need to help MNZ see that just because they hear constant complaining from 'road racers' that motards shouldn't be able to mix with 'proper' road race bikes, this would be a mistake.
The number of rider that have tried road racing on this affordable, practical type of machine is huge.
Wanganui this last year had a third of it's entries made up of Motards. In fact back in 2002 when they proposed that motards couldn't enter the F3 class there weren't enough entries so they changed the entry conditions back.
If it is just the lines that supermotard bikes run then surely 125GP bikes would only ever
be allowed in their own class? There are difficulties but surely we can work through them. I remember reading in a very old American magazine about some kid winning a street race on a motocross bike. That kid turned out to be Kevin Schwantz. Imagine the world without having had Schwantz? Supermotard as a spectacle, as a nursery for young talent and simply as a affordable way to have fun should be encouraged. Remember people complained when riders started dragging their knees back in the sixties.
Below are comments from Stephen Briggs and Graeme Scott. Please get off your arse on this one. It would be sickening to see the whining minority stymie the biggest boost road racing has seen in recent years. Remember MNZ operates for its members and they are more likely to 'hear' polite expresions (lots of them)of opinion.

We are getting shafted down here by this rule, they wont run a class just for motards if there's not enough and we cant run with anyone else. I can understand if they make a rule that in combined classes you have to ride with feet up. but that's as far as the differences in styles go.
Anyway get as many as possible to reply so we can show some weight.
cheers
Scottie
Stephen Briggs letter to Paul Stewart (Road Race Commissioner)
Hi Paul,
In response to the road commissioner feedback re banning supermoto bikes from all other classes. As a rider in all classes (World Superbikes, 500GP and World Supermoto Championship) I am very disappointed that yet again a minority can have the rules altered for their bikes which are now nearly 20 years out of date to suit themselves to obtain their trophies. Supermoto bikes have always been eligible for these classes, it is only that in these later years the supermoto bikes are keeping up with technology whereas the F3 “traditional” bikes have lagged behind. These “traditional” (import 400cc multi cylinder – Jap import bikes) have no future for the industry, parts are no longer readily available and they don’t entice young competitors into the sport. I find it surprising that no classes nationally have been started for Supermoto – yet at Paeroa and Wanganui this was by far and away the biggest field (over 50 entries) and propping up those other classes that now want them banned, I would hope that the class would finally be recognised and accommodated for by MNZ .
As for not running the class when numbers are “insufficient”, I have been present at plenty of meetings where a class was run for merely 3 sidecars or a couple of classics. It seems a shame that a couple of individuals are trying to squash the biggest growing class the sport has to offer (this is also where entry fees are coming from). At the end of the day if the bike is eligible for the class it should be entitled to run in this class regardless of riding style, dangerous riding admittedly should be recognised and the rider should be black flagged – but this also applies to those riding “traditional” style (if you can define traditional style) whether it be on a 125 or a superbike. Hope you will look at the bigger picture here as at the end of the day Supermoto is the only growing class to some people’s obvious disappointment.
Looking forward to your response.
Kind regards
Stephen Briggs
