Atkins Wins again and takes lead in AMA Supermoto Championship, Tooele, UT

Miller Motorsports Park hosted the 4th round of the AMA Supermoto Championship just outside of Salt Lake City, Utah. The World class venue set the stage for an exceptional race event. Again it was an important weekend for the team, as both riders needed to accumulate enough points to substantiate a chance at winning each individual title. Aboard his Rip it Aprilia SXV 550, Darryl was on a mission, and set fastest lap time in qualification by almost a full second. He then went on to win his heat and then the Unlimited final by 6.3 seconds. Though Atkins made it look easy, it was an extremely critical win that put him into the points lead for the championship.

The team and I have worked extremely hard to get a result like this today, I came into this event knowing I had an edge over the other riders, and it really showed with my results. I am really happy to have the points lead going into the final weekend. I still know the championship is not over, and am going to continue what I have been doing to stay on top. It was a great day for us and our sponsors.” Commented Factory Aprilia rip it energy fuels Darryl Atkins.

450 rider Ben Carlson had his work cut out for him. The riders in this class were putting down record lap times throughout the day. Carlson qualified in 6th position which gridded him 3rd in the second heat race. After a great fight, he ended up 3rd behind current AMA champion Mark Burthart. In the 12 lap final, Carlson fought back from a poor start to catch and pass X-Games Gold medalist Jeff Ward for 5th.

“ My start was not the best from the second row, but once I got Jeff in my sights, I pushed as hard as I could. It was a great feeling knowing I had given 100% here today, and also to pass Ward in the closing parts of the race. We have still got a little work to get the 450 where we want it, but we are really looking forward to Texas.” Said Carlson after the race. The Factory Aprilia Rip Energy fuel Team and sponsors again received an enormous amount of positive attention this weekend. With two rounds remaining, Atkins has now moved into 1st in the Unlimited Class Championship. Carlson is 5th in the 450 class, and within striking distance. The final two rounds will be a double header in downtown Austin Texas, on the 10th & 11th of October. We welcome you all to come out to support our team for this final US event of the season.
